[X Reportedly Reaches Settlement with Multiple Music Publishers Over Copyright Dispute, Both Parties Agree to Withdraw Lawsuits]
Documents from the U.S. federal court reveal that several major music publishers, including Universal Music and Sony Music, have agreed to resolve their legal dispute with Elon Musk's social media platform 'X' over music copyright usage. On Thursday, both parties jointly filed a motion in the federal court of Tennessee to dismiss the copyright lawsuit brought by the music publishers. The lawsuit accused X of allowing users to post copyrighted music works without authorization, infringing on hundreds of copyrights.
At the same time, both parties also filed a motion in the federal court of Texas to dismiss X's previously filed countersuit. X had accused these publishers of colluding to restrict market competition and forcing the platform to purchase music licenses at excessively high prices.
Court documents indicate that both parties requested the court to 'Dismiss with Prejudice' the related lawsuits, meaning the cases cannot be refiled in the future on the same claims.
