You’d never have guessed that Aave could have bad debt, and even less that the bad debt would come from WETH assets.
This is the kind of asset we thought would “never have issues, never get hacked.”
To be clear, WETH wasn’t stolen or compromised.
But hackers exploited other assets and drained WETH, the “safest” asset.
So, in the end, are the “proud WETH depositors” collectively footing the bill for the hackers?
A few months ago, when a certain DeFi protocol got hacked, someone suggested withdrawing all assets from AAVE.
I laughed to myself:
What nonsense is this person talking? Do they even understand AAVE? If AAVE has problems, the entire DeFi ecosystem would collapse.
And yet, here we are, not long after, and I’ve been proven dead wrong—completely and utterly.
When the city gates catch fire, the fish in the moat suffer too.
Turns out, I’m just one of those brainless fat fish swimming around in the pool, oblivious to everything.
