[Vitalik: Gitcoin Grants' Quadratic Funding Mechanism Needs to Adapt to the Demands of a 'Turbulent Era']
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin posted on the X platform, stating that Gitcoin Grants' 'quadratic funding' is still ongoing and recently completed a major round of funding. Vitalik offered suggestions to developer Devansh Mehta, advocating for further refinement of this model (including its prediction market version) while ensuring that design details and funding sources align with the demands of a 'turbulent era.'
He pointed out that the quadratic funding model currently has two advantages: it reflects a meritocratic principle, avoiding excessive egalitarianism; and it can benefit from artificial intelligence while maintaining human dominance. However, in terms of adapting to the demands of a 'turbulent era,' the mechanism still carries a distinct 'stable era' characteristic—namely, attempting to build a large-scale tool that embodies principles of justice and gains unanimous societal agreement for funding. Vitalik believes it is necessary to consider how this mechanism can function in a world that no longer operates in this manner.
