Linda Munyengeterwa, Global Director for Infrastructure, Public-Private Partnerships and Advisory, World Bank Group said today’s signing between the Government of Jamaica and Trans Americas Fiber is a big step for Jamaica’s digital future.
She said strong internet is now just as important as roads, electricity and ports. Without it, Jamaica cannot grow its economy, support businesses, or give young people the opportunities they need.
She shared that many children use technology every day, but too many others still don’t have access. This digital divide can make inequality worse if it is not fixed.
During COVID-19, many people could not go to school or get help because they had no internet. That showed how serious the problem is.
This new subsea cable and the National Broadband Network will help bring faster, more affordable internet to more Jamaicans, especially in underserved areas.(Andrew Holness)
