We are recovering from a climate-related shock, but we must remember that the world is unpredictable. Tensions between countries, changes in trade, and other challenges mean that problems often come at the same time: hurricanes, economic pressures, and financial shocks. For Jamaica, this means we must be ready for anything. When we rebuild, we will do it safely and with the future in mind. New roads, schools, hospitals, and towns will be built in safer locations. For example, Falmouth and Black River hospitals will be moved inland to protect them from the sea. To make this happen, we are creating the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority. It will coordinate rebuilding and long-term planning, bringing together public and private partners. This Authority will make sure our recovery is strong and that Jamaica is ready for the next challenge.(Andrew Holness)
