Coinbase CEO: North Korean hackers even tried bribing customer service staff
In August 2025, during an in-depth interview with Stripe co-founder John Collison, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong revealed shocking cybersecurity details. He pointed out that numerous North Korean agents are exploiting the convenience of remote work, faking identities to apply for jobs at U.S. cryptocurrency companies to steal assets. Armstrong further disclosed that hackers even offered hundreds of thousands of dollars to bribe frontline customer service staff for internal access. In response, Coinbase has implemented strict countermeasures such as mandatory fingerprint identification and requiring sensitive positions to be held by U.S. citizens, emphasizing that such crimes are met not just with termination but with imprisonment.
