**[Market Warning to U.S. Treasury: Nominating Hassett as Fed Chair May Trigger Rate Cut Storm]**
According to a report by Golden Finance, bond investors have informed the U.S. Treasury of their concerns regarding Kevin Hassett potentially being nominated as the Federal Reserve Chair, fearing he might aggressively cut interest rates to align with Trump’s preferences.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Treasury officials sought feedback on Hassett and other candidates during one-on-one conversations with executives from major Wall Street banks, asset management giants, and other key participants in the U.S. bond market.
These individuals stated that the discussions took place in November, prior to Treasury Secretary Besant initiating the second round of interviews to find Powell’s successor. The Treasury noted that it “regularly communicates with various market participants and investors regarding significant developments and dynamics in the U.S. Treasury market and broader financial markets.” It added, “In discussions with key stakeholders, the range of market expectations for potential asset outcomes under the five Fed Chair candidates was extremely narrow.”
As the White House’s Chief Economic Advisor, Hassett has emerged as a leading candidate for the position in recent weeks, following Trump and Besant’s narrowing of the initial list of 11 potential candidates.
On Tuesday, Trump stated that he plans to announce his nominee for Fed Chair “early next year” and hinted that Hassett is a “potential” contender. After mentioning Hassett, the U.S. dollar briefly declined in value.
