Semiconductor chip manufacturer MRVL is acquiring photonic interconnect technology pioneer Celestial AI for $3.25 billion. The deal includes $1 billion in cash and $2.25 billion in common stock, expected to close in Q1 2026. Celestial AI's technology is 2x faster in energy efficiency compared to NVIDIA's copper cable transmission. With nanosecond-level latency, excellent thermal stability, and the ability to operate in extreme heat environments of multi-kilowatt XPUs, their first photonic chip boasts bandwidth 10 times that of NVIDIA's 1.6T port capacity. That said, MRVL's current performance growth is pretty underwhelming. The only impression I have of this stock is that last year I asked GPT which company might be the next NVIDIA in the next decade, and this one was mentioned.
