The market cap of Web3 gaming tokens is currently $8.83 billion, down 69% year-on-year.
According to Cryptopolitan, the current market cap of Web3 gaming tokens stands at $8.83 billion, a 69% drop year-on-year and a 34% decline over the past month. Despite ongoing partnership announcements, trading volume has not been boosted during the crypto winter.
At the end of November, the GameFi sector experienced a brief bull market, with market cap growing 7% in two weeks to nearly $10 billion, and trading volume surging 103% to $6.1 billion. However, as shown in CoinMarketCap charts, this rebound was short-lived, with a pullback on December 1 causing the sector's market cap to fall below $9 billion for the first time in over a year. Sentiment in the GameFi ecosystem remains low, with fewer discussions on crypto Twitter, marking one of the lowest enthusiasm levels in the past five years.
Many Web3 gaming users engage with these platforms primarily for speculative purposes rather than gameplay. This has led to at least 27 studios shutting down between January and October this year. Interest from venture capital has also cooled, and compared to previous cycles, funding for new Web3 gaming projects has dried up. For Web3 gaming to return to a level the industry deems unmissable, AAA game publishers need to take an interest in Web3 gaming and invest more heavily.
