Russia is not trying to capture all of Ukraine. They have focused on the parts of the Ukraine which have a large Russian speaking population. Russia is playing mostly defense to hold the territory they plan to keep until NATO and the USA are done funding Ukraine. Moving deeper into Ukraine is pointless for Russia, those areas are not populated by Russians and they would be impossible to assimilate into Russia.(Wall Street Mav)
