Explaining this for the average user: Filterers, anti-spammers, have realized that they need to fork Bitcoin in order to curb a handful of types of "spam". There are, effectively, infinite ways to put JPEGs/"spam" on Bitcoin. The time & cost to fork Bitcoin is significant. It takes significant time and effort to coordinate a fork on Bitcoin (many have tried and failed). It can takes *years* to get do tiny forks. The time & cost for the jpegs, the "spammers", to migrate the entire spam ecosystem (the protocol, wallet support, marketplaces, etc) is much much lower AND there is an economic incentive to do so. In fact, it's almost certain that because the anti-spam fork is so slow moving, the entire spam ecosystem will already be live with the workaround on Day 1. And the cycle would repeat forever. And what does the anti-spam fork do anyway? There's very little economic incentive and it actually makes bitcoin objectively worse for monetary users. This has been our argument for years, the anti-spammers are just so slow that it's taken them years to wrap their heads around this. TL;DR: We can stay retarded longer than you can stay retarded.
