[Brazil Central Bank's Latest Regulatory Rules Set a Capital Threshold of Up to $7 Million for Crypto Companies]
According to CoinDesk, the latest cryptocurrency regulatory rules from Brazil's central bank clarify the operational methods for crypto enterprises, the required capital amounts, and the legal handling of international cryptocurrency transactions. Some of the central bank's regulatory provisions, including capital requirements and deadlines, have faced criticism from the cryptocurrency industry. Brazil's central bank stated that companies in the industry must hold at least 10.8 million Brazilian reais ($2 million) in capital. Depending on the type of business, some companies are required to hold at least 37.2 million reais. This figure is significantly higher than the previously proposed range of 1 million to 3 million reais during the public consultation phase. Companies that fail to meet compliance deadlines (including proving capital levels, cybersecurity controls, customer due diligence practices, and risk assessments) will be prohibited from operating. Foreign companies conducting business in Brazil must establish a local entity and transfer operations under that structure.
Earlier reports indicated that Brazil has expanded its financial industry regulatory scope to include cryptocurrency service providers.
