**[Guangdong Court in China Concludes a Virtual Currency "Foreign Victim Scam" Case]** BlockBeats News, November 2: The People's Court of Lechang City, Shaoguan, Guangdong Province, China, has concluded a foreign-related fraud case. The criminals gained the victim's trust and then guided them to invest in virtual currencies on a fake platform, thereby defrauding the victim of their assets. The Lechang Court sentenced the criminals to imprisonment ranging from six to eight months and imposed fines in accordance with the law. On March 9, 2024, Zhang M. Song and others used mobile phones and computers to bypass internet restrictions and access foreign websites. They posed as financial and economic bloggers on social media platforms and added the victim as a friend. After gaining the victim's trust, they guided them to invest in virtual currencies on a fake platform, thereby defrauding the victim of their assets. Investigations revealed that one foreign victim was defrauded of RMB 4,619.9. Subsequently, the defendant's relatives returned all the defrauded funds on their behalf. The judge reminded the public that the notion of "only scamming foreigners" is by no means a legal exemption. Foreign territories are not outside the reach of the law, and one should not believe the fallacy that "scamming foreigners is not illegal." (Lechang Court Official WeChat Account)
