According to Hong Kong's Wen Hui website, a retired 70 year old Hong Kong man received a message claiming to be his female neighbor on WhatsApp and subsequently developed a twilight relationship, but never met him once. The woman claims to work at the Singapore Exchange and has insider information about cryptocurrency investments, falsely claiming to receive substantial returns. The old man transferred a total of HKD 3.2727 million in 37 installments to the 34 bank accounts provided by the woman. Until the old man reached the ATM withdrawal limit and personally went to the bank to withdraw a large amount of cash, the bank staff noticed that the transaction was abnormal and immediately notified the anti fraud coordination center, finally exposing the scam. The elderly suffered a loss of over HKD 3.27 million and owe nearly one million in debt as a result.
