According to Golden Finance, the Republican Party in the US House of Representatives overcame some internal resistance and cancelled $9 billion in federal spending for foreign aid and public broadcasting. The House of Representatives passed the Trump administration's plan early on Friday with 216 votes to 213, which had previously been approved by the Senate. This withdrawal of spending marks the first successful "money recovery operation" carried out by the White House in over 25 years. This action effectively formalizes the government's measures to reduce foreign aid programs, including cutting funding for the United States Agency for International Development, which was closed and merged into the State Department earlier this year. This move also revoked $1.1 billion in funding from the Public Broadcasting Corporation (which owns NPR and PBS) and will cease funding for the next two fiscal years. Republicans have long criticized NPR and PBS for their liberal bias.
