On Thursday I was briefed by the officers in charge of Newport West and St. Andrew South police divisions. In St. Andrew South, I used the opportunity to ask about three recent murders, including the tragic killing of a 14-year-old girl in a drive-by shooting, for which I have offered a reward. The police have identified suspects and are pursuing strong leads. At Newport West, which oversees port security, I was encouraged by reports of low crime levels although the police division identified issues involving larceny and related offences. The division continues to maintain strong partnerships with port stakeholders to ensure safety. We remain committed to supporting our security forces as they work to protect our citizens and uphold justice.
