According to CryptoSlate, Volkswagen's autonomous driving subsidiary, Volkswagen ADMT, will obtain real-time street view data from Bee Maps. Bee Maps is a spatial intelligence service running on Hivemapper's Solana based map network. The CEO of Hivemapper stated that this collaboration will transform maps from static to dynamic, and autonomous taxi fleets will need data that is synchronized with street changes.
Bee Maps aggregates and installs images uploaded by drivers using the "Bee" dashcam, and converts them into lane markings and other information using machine learning models. Participants can receive HONEY tokens for verifying their data, providing Hivemapper with the latest global map data. It records data on the Solana blockchain, with a network covering a significant proportion of roads worldwide and updates more frequently. Bee Maps sells data through APIs for use by logistics and autonomous taxi developers. Both parties have not disclosed financial terms, and Bee Maps typically charges based on usage.
