Odaily Planet Daily reported that the police in the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, recently seized an illegal theft of electricity from a cryptocurrency mining site carried by a truck. The mine illegally connected to a 10 kV transmission line, which was discovered and reported to the police by staff during routine inspections. 95 mining machines and one transformer were seized on site, and their power supply capacity can cover a small residential area. It is reported that this is the sixth similar case seized in the Buryatia region this year. During the period from November 15th to March 15th of the following year, any cryptocurrency mining activities outside of specific areas are prohibited in the local area, and only registered enterprises are allowed to operate within a limited period. The energy department pointed out that illegal power connection seriously affects the quality of residential power supply, which may lead to voltage instability, power grid overload, and fault risks.
