Today, a wealthy individual was caught with tens of thousands of dollars, causing concern among everyone about the clamp.
I have found that many people are not very clear about issues such as slippage and clamps. So, today I will write an article to popularize science. It also indicates where to pay attention.
What is a sliding point
When trading, the first thing to set is a sliding point. What is a sliding point? For example, now you want to buy a coin called DSB with a price of $1. Although you have been single for 30 years, the price may change from the time you click submit to the final confirmation of the transaction. So the sliding point you set is the allowed price range. If you set the sliding point to 5%, it means that the price is as high as 1.05, and you are willing to buy. If it exceeds, then you are unwilling. So when a new coin opens and rises rapidly, trading is prone to failure.
Many people have a very small sliding point in the Alpha settings they are using, which ensures the purchase price, but the transaction is particularly prone to failure because the price change exceeds 0.01%.
What is a clamp
Now there is a shameless person who is staring at the chain as a whole. When it found out that a fool was willing to buy a DSB for a maximum of 1.05, and now the price of DSB is 1 dollar. So, the order of packaging transactions on the chain is prioritized based on gas fees. This shameless person paid a higher gas fee for priority transactions and used their own money to raise DSB to $1.05. Then it was the turn of the two fools to trade the block, and it was sold for $1.05. Due to the buying behavior of the second son, the DSB price will continue to rise (for example, to 1.06). Then this shameless person immediately sold out the DSB at a price of 1.06. Achieved risk-free profits.
So, this shameless clamp won't clamp all transactions, it needs to ensure that profits are guaranteed because it requires paying higher gas fees.
TVL for 3 trading pairs
The TVL of the trading pair, commonly known as pool thickness, will affect the condition of the clamp.
When the pool is very large, there is almost no need to worry about the clamp. Because it requires a very high cost. The following figure shows the LP pool of USDT/ZK. In Cake V3, it is allowed to set the range of input prices, similar to the form of a box.
Simply put, the current price of zkj belongs to a box of 2.01 USDT. To enter the next price range, you need to buy all zk in this box. And how many are there in the current box? There are 15.76 million zks inside, worth about 30 million US dollars.
So, if there is a big smart person who uses $1000 and sets a sliding point of 1% to buy zk now, then shamelessly, they need to spend more than $30 million to buy zk, pull the price to $1.01, and earn a profit of $10. It's obvious that this is not cost-effective compared to business, and the risk is high. It is likely that the banker withdrew the pool before selling the zk.
That's why the larger the pool, the lower the probability of being caught.
Explain some reasons for being trapped and having low losses.
Most cases claiming to be trapped may simply be due to fluctuations in the currency price. Because the price of the box has a price range, although the range is small, if it is 10000U and the price range is one thousandth, there is also a fluctuation of 10U. Sometimes buying high and selling low can cause significant fluctuations in the price range.
And most of the low loss strategies seen online are just nonsense. Perhaps it's just a coincidence that the price is rising. Switching to another time, the result is completely different. The only two conditions that can truly achieve the maximum low loss are: 1) the pool is thick enough, so that price fluctuations are very small and not easily trapped; 2) the transaction fee is low, which is the cost to be paid for each transaction.
Finally, let's talk about today's incident where a wealthy individual was caught.
Many people are very worried about today's events. However, in reality, this may be due to the wallet using the wrong route.
What is routing? For example, if you look at Koge's tokens, there are several pools, including USDC/WBNB/USDT/ZK trading pairs, as well as those on different exchanges such as Cake and Uniswap. So, when you want to trade koge, which pool (i.e. route) should you use specifically? Usually it is provided by the dex you use, or by aggregation platforms with specialized routing such as 1inch, Jup, etc. And these places usually default to choosing the trading pairs with the shortest path and thickest pool to help you trade.
Routing is often overlooked because it cannot be set up. The website where you are trading has automatically provided it. When trading on Binance Wallet, you will be given the option to aggregate platforms. When your amount is particularly large, you need to pay special attention to the routing. Due to the large amount of funds in a single transaction, in order to minimize the impact on prices, trading will be conducted in multiple pools.
When this major player was caught, it was obvious that there was a problem with the routing. Looking at Koge's pool, it can be seen from the screenshot that Uniswap's pool has very low liquidity, while Pancakeswap's pool is the thickest. But the route chose to go to Uniswap for the transaction, and its sliding point was not set properly, resulting in this painful loss.
Overall, setting very small sliding points can prevent getting caught. But there is also a problem of transaction failure. When the pool is particularly large, the risk of being caught is particularly small. You can brainlessly set the sliding point to 0.01%. If you're not afraid, you can brush a big pool like zkj like me, with a default sliding point of 1%.
As for today's major player being caught, it should be a problem with his own settings, as he did not set a sliding point. At the same time, there are also issues with the routing of the dex it uses.
