@ethos_network 一、让我们回顾下Ethos是什么? ➹ 它更像是 ReputationFi(声誉金融),甚至可以说是一个早期形态的 ConsensusFi(共识金融)。 以下是英文 ⚔️ The Reputation War Is About to Erupt Where is Ethos in the Web3 reputation battlefield? Where are the real opportunities? What updates are included in the latest version of Ethos? This article offers a curated deep dive—worth a read and a share (especially as new updates roll out). Last night, @serpinxbt and a broad mix of active Ethos participants across different circles gathered for a public Twitter Space to discuss the reputation controversy surrounding Udi. I listened in from beginning to end. What unfolded was more than just public scrutiny of a person or project—it became a collective meditation on whether "consensus" is real and whether "reputation" can be measured. It was a realist conversation, and at the same time, a mirror exposing the mechanics of consensus. @ethos_network 1. What Is Ethos? Ethos is a protocol designed to record on-chain reputation, with the goal of building a consensus-ready, queryable, and structured reputation graph of individuals in Web3. Users can issue clear judgments: Is this person/project trustworthy? Worth supporting? Every action is recorded on-chain and contributes to the user’s reputation score. While the score doesn’t directly affect token prices, it may influence trustworthiness in DAO governance. In essence: A visualization system for on-chain consensus. 2. What Was Discussed in the Space? The hot topic was Udi’s plummeting reputation in the community. Some users initiated a slash (downgrade action), prompting a wave of scoring activity, including from groups like the Skull NFT community. Key questions raised: Is reputation just an accumulation of emotions? Or a rational metric? Is Ethos uncovering the truth—or magnifying biases? Can Web3 ever achieve true overlapping consensus? Adam McBride (@adamamcbride) reminded everyone: “Supporting Leonidas doesn’t mean I must oppose Udi. Reputation is not a static verdict—it’s a result of behavior.” Serpin added: “We are not the judges—we are just the recorders of consensus.” 3. Is Ethos SocialFi, InfoFi—or Something Else? This discussion sparked a deeper question: What kind of protocol is Ethos? It’s not SocialFi—Ethos isn’t built on monetizing social relationships. It’s not purely InfoFi—it doesn’t directly financialize information value. It’s more aligned with ReputationFi, or even an early prototype of ConsensusFi. Why ReputationFi? Because Ethos isn’t about information itself—it’s about how information shapes identity. Who you are, how others perceive you, and how your reputation evolves over time all influence whether you can enter a DAO or become a leading figure in a community. Ethos is measuring your “on-chain trust temperature.” 4. The Core Dilemma: Is Consensus Trustworthy? There’s a paradox at the heart of reputation systems: ✔ Web3 promotes consensus-driven governance, but every consensus is emotionally charged. ✔ Ethos wants to be a consensus observer—but it often ends up recording tribal labels + bag bias + rage mobs. In Udi’s case, many slash votes came from one NFT community (Skull), suggesting the scoring wasn’t purely based on independent judgment—it may have been collective signaling mobilized by group dynamics. Which begs the question: Is a reputation score truly a reflection of consensus—or just a social weapon? (This is exactly why I dislike cliques—they distort fairness and transparency.) 5. No One Is Safe from the Consensus Storm Today it's Udi—tomorrow, it could be you or me. Without a unified on-chain identity system, every wallet is a dynamic evaluation entity. One action, one post, one alliance—or one misstep—and your reputation may change. This doesn’t mean Ethos is flawed. Quite the opposite—it proves that Ethos is a valuable decentralized sentiment observatory. But we must understand: ✦ Consensus is fuzzy, not final ✦ Reputation is fluid, driven by events ✦ Being voted on ≠ being defined Final Words from Mao Mao Ethos gives us a first glimpse into two things: → Reputation is now visible → Consensus is now measurable But it also exposes an uncomfortable Web3 truth: Labels travel faster. Bias is exposed more vividly. Forgiveness is harder to come by. That’s not a bug—it’s the reality. Before diving into Web3, one must first accept: No reputation is immune to outside influence. No one escapes the pressure of collective perception. Serpin said something worth remembering: “We’re not forecasting who will be left in the cold—we’re simply recording how consensus is shifting.” 🔔 What's New in the Latest Ethos Update? Congrats if you’ve made it this far—this is the part you care about most.
