Through sound fiscal responsibility, we have been able to balance the budget, raise more revenue without increasing taxes, and invest that revenue directly into improving the lives of Jamaicans. This is what it means to choose Jamaica, to spend the people’s money on the people’s priorities. Without raising taxes, this administration has launched one of the largest road rehabilitation programmes in the history of Jamaica. Forty five billion dollars is being invested to repair and upgrade six hundred community roads, not just main roads, but the roads in your own communities, many of which have not been properly fixed since the 1980s. And we are not just patching roads. Under the SPARK Programme, these roads will be built to the highest standard, proper drainage, five to six inches of asphalt, and engineering that will last. Contractors are being held to strict standards of quality and accountability. If a road fails, the contractor will not be paid again to repair it. Those days are over. We are setting a new standard for roadworks in Jamaica, one that communities deserve and that the people of this country have waited far too long to see. This is what choosing Jamaica looks like.
