No one can criticize Ryan’s perception that MA is a lost cause. Trust me, I get it. In a state that’s 64% registered Independents (called unenrolled) a Republican winning shouldn’t be so difficult. Still, only 8% of voters in MA are registered Republicans.
My difference in opinion with Ryan is that, although very difficult, I don’t believe MA to be a total lost cause. The reason is exactly what Ryan addresses in his post: “They are too far gone.”
EVERY SINGLE STATEWIDE AND FEDERAL office in MA is held by Democrats - many of whom are far-left radicals (i.e. @RepPressley, @MayorWu, @SenMarkey, etc).
Because of it, and because they’ve become so arrogant, they’ve went way too far-left and have now offended center-left voters. For example, 72% of voters demanded an audit of the legislature yet their fighting it. Imagine that.
They’re focusing on banning plastic grocery bags at a time people can’t afford groceries in the bags.
We have an affordable housing crisis but alternative energy mandates prevent affordable housing from being built. Alternative surcharges are causing electric bills to skyrocket. 2 years ago, @MassGovernor banned new natural gas pipelines from coming into MA and now people are paying the price.
They’re taxing everything (millionaires, candy, prescriptions, you name it, including taxing taxes (surcharges on existing taxes).
They want to limit how many miles we drive.🤦♂️
A right to shelter law combined with the Open Border policy they all supported has DEVASTATED MA.
Many reading this will say: “Then why didn’t you win?”
First, I announced on Feb 20 - 9 months before the election because no one was stepping up to run against Warren.
Second, no one knew who I was. Although a lawyer in MA for 2 decades, I had ZERO name recognition among the MA public. Even after winning the primary, sixty days before the general election, 49% of voters had never heard of me. It’s difficult to win when half the state doesn’t know your name.
Third, MA has a late Primary and the Republican primary in 2024 was contested, with 2 other candidates. This required focus and money on winning the Primary and not being able to run a general election campaign. Depsite 2 other candidates on the primary ballot, I won by 65% but only had 800K left in the bank 🆚 @ewarren’s 25M, with 9 weeks to go.
Because no one knew who I was, the day after the primary, a poll showed me down 24 points, which killed fundraising.
Despite all the above, 1.3 million voters voted for me and I got over 40% - the first for a Republican candidate for Senate in many years. If I would’ve had 5 million more in the bank, I wouldn’t have won, but I would’ve gotten it down to single digits.
Also significant, although @realDonaldTrump lost MA big, it was the 2nd best state he improved over the 2020 election results. President Trump even won Fall River, MA - a first for a Republican candidate for president in over 120 years.
I’m not suggesting MA is going to flip red anytime soon, but I believe there’s reason to believe it’s not lost forever.
Polling/data provides hope.
All polling, including by Democrats, consistently show 55%-60% voters don’t want Markey to run again.
In fact, a group of people who want me to run again commissioned a poll and it showed I could potentially beat Markey by 3-7 points.
No poll ever showed me beating Warren.👇

A recent polling showed both @MassGovernor and @EdMarkey under water.👇

Democrats have a problem: a recent poll showed that the only Democrat who could beat @EdMarkey in a Democratic primary is @RepPressley. That’s how FAR-LEFT you have to be to win a MA democratic primary.
So, if there was an uncontested Republican primary, it would give Republicans a real shot because the Democrats have to either put up a guy who first went to Washington in 1978 (I was only 9 years old) or someone so far-left traditional democrats would want a sensible alternative.
