From the interview with Hsiao Wei @ hwwonx, Co Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation by @ ETHPanda'Org, we can extract several key highlights of Ethereum's current development:
1) On a technical level, The Merge successfully achieved the transition from PoW to PoS, described as "replacing engines during airplane flight", demonstrating Ethereum's ability to complete core architecture upgrades without stopping the machine. It is worth noting that she emphasized that The Merge's biggest challenge lies not in the technology itself, but in the "integrator" - coordinating developers, clients, and stakeholders from all parties involved;
2) In terms of organizational structure, EF is undergoing significant functional differentiation and specialization. EF has internally reorganized into three business groups, while separating specific functions to external organizations such as Etherealize, focusing on handling integration with traditional finance and Wall Street. This division of labor reflects the Ethereum ecosystem gradually moving towards a decentralized governance model;
3) In terms of funding strategy, EF is no longer limited to simple ETH sales, but actively explores diversified management methods such as DeFi lending, staking, and asset tokenization, demonstrating more mature financial thinking. It is worth noting that Hsiao Wei pointed out that selling EF coins is a last resort - the foundation has two to three hundred people, and about 75% of its expenses need to be paid in fiat currency. This practical need explains why it is necessary to "sell coins" even in times of unfavorable market conditions.
I think the most thought-provoking aspect is Hsiao Wei's candid attitude towards the responsibilities of the Ethereum Foundation. She bluntly stated, 'If there are organizations in the community that can replace the role of EF, the foundation may shrink in size.' This actually means that EF does not pursue a permanent central position, but is willing to relinquish power at the appropriate time. The concept of actively thinking about one's own boundaries and gradually fading out is in stark contrast to the practice of other blockchain project founding teams constantly expanding their power boundaries.
In addition, Hsiao Wei specifically mentioned several directions worth paying attention to in terms of future application trends. Pointing out that Identity, Social design, and mini program ecology are potential innovative directions that are in line with the current trend of Web3 penetrating daily applications.
