US prosecutors recommend sentencing SEC hacker council to two years in prison

According to Golden Finance, on May 12th, US prosecutors recommended to the District Court of Columbia to sentence Eric Council Jr. to two years in prison for controlling the SEC's X account through a SIM swapping attack in 2024 and publishing false information that the SEC had approved a spot Bitcoin ETF. The prosecutor stated that this case should be punished with imprisonment within the range of sentencing guidance, and pointed out that the defendant engaged in complex fraudulent operations by forging identity documents, misleading communication stores, and transmitting password reset codes to accomplices. The Council has pleaded guilty and will appear in court on May 16th to hear the verdict.
