BlockBeats News: On May 6th, according to official announcements, OpenAI announced a restructuring and abandoned its previous plan to restructure into a for-profit company. It will continue to be controlled by non-profit organizations, and its for-profit entity will transform into a "public welfare company" (PBC). OpenAI was founded in 2015 as a non-profit organization, but transformed into a limited profit organization in 2019 and attempted to transform again into a for-profit organization. After transitioning to limited profitability, OpenAI retained its non-profit division, which currently holds a controlling stake in OpenAI's enterprise division. OpenAI Chairman Bret Taylor and CEO Sam Altman stated that this move aims to ensure that AI development benefits all of humanity, while enhancing the ability to mobilize funds to cope with the enormous computing resources needed in the AGI era.
