Report: US population aged 60 and above will lose nearly $3 billion due to cryptocurrency fraud in 2024 According to the "2024 Report" released by the FBI Cybercrime Complaint Center (IC3), a total of 33369 complaints were filed by individuals aged 60 and above in the United States for cryptocurrency related fraud in 2024, resulting in a total loss of $2.84 billion, accounting for over 30% of the total $9.3 billion in cryptocurrency fraud losses for the year. Overall, IC3 received a total of 149686 cryptocurrency related complaints throughout the year, an increase of 66% year-on-year. Investment fraud and encrypted ATM fraud were the main methods, resulting in losses of $5.8 billion and $247 million, respectively.
