AukeHoestra is not the first person in the environmental movement who has been hoodwinked by the simple apparent truth, over the actual counter-intuitive truth. He will not be the last. Here's why his conclusion is incorrect: 1. Renewable energy transition needs more energy consumption at least in the short term (Saul Griffiths) 2. To achieve 2050 NZE targets in tandem with 20x battery deployment, we need 10x the level of flexible load/demand response. (International Energy Association) 3. Flexible load consumption has been shown to help decarbonize grids (Rhodes et al, 2021), and defer expensive grid upgrade costs (Norris et al, 2025) 4. Flexible loads allow for larger penetration of VRE on grids (Tateiwa, 2025) and can obviate the need for gas peakers plants (Bruno & Yates, 2023) 5. Flexible loads that are able to remotely locate raise the profitability of VRE and the reduce the payback period of solar generation facilities by 8.1 to 3.5 years (Hakimi et at 2024), which typically gets reinvested into expanding the renewable generation facility, accelerating green energy transition (Lal et al, 2023). There's a reason there's 16 peer reviewed papers supporting the need for more FLC (flexible load consumers)
