According to BeInCrypto, cybercriminals are using new phishing SMS scams to target Binance users. Dozens of Binance users have reported receiving a batch of seemingly legitimate phishing messages, using the same phone number and message inbox as the usual channels for receiving Binance official information. After comparison, the wording and format of these phishing messages are highly similar. Based on this, it is speculated that specific threat actors or criminal groups are planning carefully crafted phishing attacks against Binance users. In this type of targeted phishing attack, text messages often warn users of abnormal activity in their accounts, such as double authentication for newly added devices. The most common phishing messages mention the unexpected association between Binance API and Ledger Live, and urge the recipient to call the phone number provided in the message. Some users have expressed that these phishing messages appear in the same SMS thread as legitimate Binance notifications, which is confusing and easy to fall into traps. Many users are unprepared because the sender ID of the fraudulent SMS is the same as the real notification ID of Binance. Binance Chief Security Officer Jimmy Su confirmed that Binance has noticed an upward trend in SMS phishing incidents. He said, "More and more phishing scammers are impersonating us or other legitimate senders through text messages. These fraudulent messages appear to be real, deceiving users into leaking sensitive information, clicking phishing links or transferring funds, resulting in user asset losses." Su also revealed that Binance has extended the anti phishing code function to SMS services, which was originally designed for email. This code is a user-defined identifier that will appear in the official information of Binance, helping recipients identify the true notification and avoid being deceived by imposters. At present, the anti phishing code feature has been launched in all licensed jurisdictions operated by Binance. In addition, according to Binance, both registered and unregistered users have reported receiving suspicious text messages.
