Last weekend, the rumor that “Trump wants to issue a new coin on Robinhood” successfully ignited the market.
Amidst the intertwining of rumors, insider information, and on-chain movements, the TRUMP token once exceeded 3.4 USD, reaching a new high since March; the official TRUMP team also seized the opportunity to sell millions of tokens, cashing out over 9.15 million USD. On the other hand, Robinhood's stock price followed the rise, with HOOD once surging over 11%.
However, this farce came to an abrupt end with the clarification from Trump’s second son, Eric Trump. But considering the previous “track record” of the Trump family's crypto projects, whether this episode truly has no sequel remains inconclusive.
Now, let us turn the clock back three days (August 21) and review how this farce unfolded, evolved, and ultimately concluded.
A familiar formula, a different flavor: Everything begins with insider news in the “Trump Bull Market”
Last week, Trump again made remarks at the White House cryptocurrency conference encouraging “crypto innovation and creating a friendly regulatory environment,” and the crypto market surged in response. Coupled with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s actions regarding US debt repurchases, BTC, gold, and other assets rebounded sharply, with BTC surpassing 79,000 USD and gold bouncing back to around 4,600 USD, leading the market to declare “the Trump-style bull market is back.”
Numerous prominent figures, including Wang Chun, co-founder of Yuch Pool, and CEO of Strive, also stated that “the bear market is over,” with some even using Trump's and the recently popular “bull run” imagery to illustrate this wave of explosive growth.

“Trump-style Bull Run”
Following the explosive rise, numerous rumors about Trump began to appear, particularly the insider news that “Trump plans to issue a new token on Robinhood at 2 AM on August 22.” On the night of August 21, this news was circulating throughout the X platform, crypto community, and WeChat groups.
When an insider rumor spreads widely and even becomes an “open secret,” the direction of the story becomes quite clear.
From Trump to Trump family members: The N times reversal of fake token news
On the night of August 21, a screenshot of a Telegram message began circulating in major crypto communities, and the information changed from “Trump wants to issue a token” to “Trump’s son wants to issue a token, but not today.”

In no time, countless people recalled the event from January 18 last year, three days before Trump was officially to take office as the President of the United States, when the “official Trump Meme coin TRUMP” launched—TRUMP's price surged from around 0.5 USD to nearly 40 USD within one day, and later approached 80 USD within the next three days. Countless KOLs and on-chain whales made millions or even tens of millions of dollars in huge profits.
If this news were true, nobody would want to miss another chance to get rich, even if this token might be a “money-losing project” like MELANIA or Libra by Miley.
That night, due to the credible rumors circulating in the market, countless individuals were on edge in the on-chain space, fearing a sudden new token from Trump’s team might emerge as a “second release.” Soon, on-chain dynamics began their performance, pushing this “token issuance farce” to a new climax.
On-chain developments take center stage: Suspected Trump team testing new token issuance called WWW?
On August 22, after a night of inactivity, amidst half-hearted skepticism from the market and community, news regarding “Trump team's token issuance” gradually shifted focus to on-chain updates.
Several members of the crypto community posted: “A new wallet on Robinhood has received 290 ETH, suspected to be for the Trump family’s token launch test, with the token code named WWW. The first version of the token had a 10% transaction tax, while the second version changed it to 0.3%. At that time, it had a market cap of around 10 million USD, with the token developers holding about 99.9% of the tokens, and the token's name was Truth Coin.” Others pointed out that there was another token called Test Coin with a similar situation, totaling 1 billion tokens.

However, later, several crypto community members and KOLs confirmed this was just a “scam habitual offender” that frequently creates rug pulls. Crypto Jargon provided detailed analysis on the relevant addresses and capital flows. Another “token issuance dynamics” was gradually debunked amidst suspicion.
A wave of rumors emerges: Trump family's impending token issuance sparks discussion on X platform
On August 22, news about “the Trump family’s imminent token issuance” gradually spread across the X platform, with numerous crypto accounts both big and small posting for traffic hype, market insider motives, or to exploit audience FOMO psychology, all claiming the Trump family would issue tokens.
Among them, “crypto marketing big account” doomer posted stating “according to WLFI insiders: the Trump family plans to launch tokens such as BARRON and DONJR in October”;

With nearly 200,000 followers, Ronald Carter stated: “Trump is set to issue a new token in a month.”

With over 280,000 followers, the crypto big account Whale Scan also joined the frenzy. This account stated in the early hours of August 23 “Trump is about to launch a new token, I'm the first to call this news, remember to turn on the notifications.”
TRUMP team quickly offloads millions of TRUMP: Cumulative sales value exceeding 12 million USD
On August 20, benefiting from Trump’s statements and a series of positive news regarding related policies, TRUMP surged over 26% in one day, reaching a high of 1.865 USD;
Two days later, on August 22, TRUMP briefly broke through 3.4 USD, hitting a new high since March 21, with a 24-hour increase of nearly 100%.
On August 23, the TRUMP token team address (2RH...FSK) transferred 3.837 million SOL, worth 9.33 million USD, which after being routed through BitGo entered OKX.
On August 24, the TRUMP token team address (BDNB...mx66) sold 1.1 million TRUMP tokens again by adding unilateral liquidity, exchanging for 2.94 million USDC, with an average selling price of 2.68 USD.
Thus, leveraging the market rumors of “Trump wanting to issue a new coin” and the hype surrounding the TRUMP token, the TRUMP team successfully profited over 12 million USD and subsequently faded away, truly becoming the “master behind the scenes.”
The reason is simple, as Eric Trump, being Trump’s second son, had already publicly refuted this on the morning of August 23.
Eric Trump personally refutes: “Token issuance is a joke, whoever says that is a fraud”
On August 23, shortly after Whale Scan’s post, Eric Trump saw the post claiming the Trump family was to issue a token, and he responded with a post: “This is truly a joke… this is absolutely not true. No one will issue any type of token. If anyone suggests otherwise, that’s a scam.” From then on, the crypto farce of “Trump wanting to issue a new coin” finally came to an end, but the fallout from this hype event continues to spread in the market.

Aftermath: Who is to issue the tokens? Trump himself? Trump Media Group? Or family members of Trump?
After Eric Trump’s clarification, the crypto market and community continued to discuss the following aspects regarding this matter:
Crypto KOL Crypto Brave posted: “This presidential new token event is likely a fraud planned by some active market makers (Odaily Planet Daily note: market makers), possibly organized by certain conspiracy groups to generate hype, thus spreading to the on-chain user circle.”
Crypto KOL Northern Blockchain also pointed out: “I believe Trump will not issue a token because of the CLARITY Act, which clearly stipulates that Trump must divest from crypto businesses; Trump has agreed to this clause. The Senate will vote on the clarity act in September, and now token issuance would imply that Trump's son has a problem with logic.”
Crypto KOL Blockchain National Treasure noted: “Trump has not issued a token, but Trump Media or World Liberty Financial has officially confirmed ‘a new, freely tradable Trump Meme Coin is imminent.’” He believes, “The current statements in the market have mainly confused several various matters—Trump Media had indeed previously announced a digital token plan for DJT shareholders: For those eligible shareholders with a record date of February 2, 2026, one token will be granted for each whole share of DJT held. The official terms are clear: this token does not represent equity in Trump Media or other entities, nor is it a tokenized version of DJT stock; and according to the announced plan, it is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. Its potential use is to provide holders with rights or discounts for products like Truth Social, Truth+, Truth Predict, etc.
Thus, the entire “Trump wanting to issue a new token” crypto farce finally reached its last chapter. As for the future, will the Trump family issue tokens in a month or this October? In which name will a family member of Trump issue tokens? When will the tokens issued by Trump Media Group go live? Will Trump himself issue a second token? Will the issued tokens be on the Robinhood chain? All remains unknown.
Whether this farce has a sequel, we shall wait and see.
