PANews May 2 news, “On-chain detective” ZachXBT reported that certain U.S. law firms are using their investigative work and on-chain evidence collection to assist victims of certain hacking incidents in filing legal claims, but this practice may instead slow down victims' compensation/recovery of funds. In previous hacking incidents involving the Lazarus Group, such law firms typically intervene only after their on-chain fund tracking or freezing is completed, and propose follow-up legal actions that are weakly related to the crypto incidents themselves. Similar strategies of “free-riding claims” have been taken in incidents such as Harmony and Bybit. ZachXBT also called for the crypto community to establish a DAO to resist such behavior.
