One | Loss of Composure

A friend asked me whether chatgpt, codex, and claude code are actually useful.

I intended to analyze it seriously, but what came out of my mouth was somewhat an impulsive exclamation:

"This is really useful, this is a miracle, this is the kind of power that gods should have, and yet it has fallen into the hands of us mortals."

I was startled even after saying that.

Because it felt less like praising a product and more like saying that this kind of power should not so easily belong to ordinary people.

Two | Authority

When I was a child watching Prometheus steal fire, I always thought it was just a fairy tale about bravery.

Now, facing these large models, I fully understand: fire is not fire; it is "system authority" of the underlying world.

When primitive humans obtained fire, they gained not just warmth in winter but the super authority to drive away fierce beasts, evolve cooked food, and even smelt metals for the first time.

They bypassed the long ladder of physical evolution and forcibly rewrote the survival rules of nature.

The sense of intimidation brought by today's AI is exactly the same.

In the past, if humans wanted to touch true "high-level creation," they had to compete with time, talent, and organizational scale.

You either spend most of your life tirelessly engaging in one domain or rely on huge capital to build a whole team, forcing together countless top minds to delve into a complex system.

This cross-domain "grand computing power" was originally a shrine built by long years and astronomical capital, a privilege reserved for a few giants and elite individuals.

But now, AI allows you to transcend not some "ten years of hard study" but the boundaries of intellectual capacity itself.

An ordinary person sitting in their bedroom can tap a few keys and instantly mobilize the knowledge of countless top minds in human civilization.

But this astonishing leap brings a deceptive illusion: you haven't truly grown god-like powers; you've merely paid $20 a month to register for a ChatGPT Plus membership.

You've just spent a few dozen dollars to hold the reins of an unknown giant.

Three | Riding an Elephant

What is most unsettling is that they are no longer just tools; the AIs are no longer merely "answering questions" or providing us with results, as simple as that.

They are truly starting to "take over" tasks.

You throw out a few commands, and it goes off to extract code, fix bugs, scour the entire internet for information, and compile a long report.

Previous tools were maps; you had to walk the road yourself.

Now? You just specify a destination, and the vehicle begins to move on its own.

You think you are still driving. In reality, you are not, even though you are still sitting in the driver's seat.

What’s the difference? When you drive yourself, you might stop along the way to take a scenic photo or pull over to buy a drink. But when the vehicle drives itself, you are far less likely to do that.

This illusory sense of control forcibly turns us into "riders of elephants."

You sit high on the back of the elephant, waving commands, believing you are directing it precisely, confidently in control.

But in reality, it is the elephant that wades through the water and clears the path.

We smugly think of ourselves as masters, forgetting that we are merely fortunate to have mounted a powerful beast.

This is not me becoming stronger; it is me suddenly awakening a colossal entity that far exceeds my own capacities, which I should not be able to control.

Four | Thunder

Since it is stealing fire, Zeus’s thunder will eventually strike down.

I previously only vaguely thought this way.

Until Anthropic presented Mythos, stating that it represents a watershed in the field of safety.

For the first time, I felt that this might not just be a metaphor. Because from that moment on, discussions were no longer just about efficiency, but whether this thing could break through the thresholds for finding vulnerabilities and attacking systems.

Soon after, the KelpDAO cross-chain bridge in the cryptocurrency space had issues, with attackers creating a bunch of "air collateral" and borrowing over $200 million worth of ETH from Aave.

Of course, I have no idea if this is related to Mythos.

But the timing is truly chilling: has the threshold for causing damage and finding vulnerabilities been completely breached?

Will such incidents become increasingly frequent?

Five | Embers

When fire falls to the world, the first thing is often not warmth.

But rather destruction.

History books always like to gloss over peace, only writing about the prosperity of the new world without mentioning the wails during the collapse of the old order.

The mass extinction of dinosaurs 66 million years ago was not about evolution; it was an outright ruthless overturning of the entire world;

When we talk about the Industrial Revolution today, we are full of steam engines, large factories, and leaps in productivity, but for those who were in the midst of it, what they first felt was not prosperity but being driven off the land, being replaced by machines, and being mercilessly "re-priced."

The new era has never arrived on the wings of flowers; it always treads on the ruins.

Thus, the eve of the AI revolution is by no means a time of flowers blooming.

Even the IMF has released cold, hard data: over 40% of jobs globally will be absorbed by AI.

This foretells a silent cleansing.

What is most frightening is not even having the meal ticket smashed at once, but the complete "erasure"—you suddenly wake up to find that the professional barriers you have worked hard to build over half your life are instantly turned to ash in the face of this great fire.

You haven’t done anything wrong, still working hard every day, but you have been kicked off the table by the times, without even a word of apology.

Your annihilation is of no concern to you.

Six | Taking Sides

Even understanding all of this, I still unhesitatingly stand on the side of Prometheus.

Because being burned by fire is indeed terrifying, but the spark forever monopolized by a few "gods" is a thousand times more terrifying.

Imagine if this kind of "system authority" that can rewrite the underlying patterns of civilization is forever locked in the data centers of Silicon Valley giants, only serving a tiny minority of capital and the powerful, will that "silent cleansing" stop?

Absolutely not; it will only come with more arrogance and despair. We must not allow a world where only the lofty "priests" can wield fire.

If fire remains in the priests' hands, ordinary people will still be crushed, replaced, and kicked off the table, yet they won’t even understand what kind of dimensionality reduction attack has turned them into victims. Without even a last weapon for self-rescue, we can only be slaughtered unilaterally in this absolute technological chasm.

Now, Prometheus has carelessly thrown this flame into the crowd.

Zeus will certainly be furious. His thunder will strike down; those industries that are overturned, the jobs that are crushed, the uncontrolled system vulnerabilities are punishments from the gods, and sooner or later will indiscriminately fall upon each of us.

But also because of this, you cannot stand empty-handed in the storm waiting to die.

So, hurry up and register your ChatGPT, use Codex to run your code, integrate Claude Cowork into your workflow, and install your little lobster.

Even if you understand that the few dozen dollars spent every month only buy you a dangerously precarious rein that could pull you over at any moment, you must grip it tightly, forcibly putting yourself back on the table first.

Since fire has already fallen to the world, what you need to do is not to avoid it, but to quickly grab your share.

Seven | Myth

Many years from now, the current models and names may be replaced.

But I will always remember the moment my friend asked me if it was "useful."

And my answer in my heart is actually not that it is useful.

It is another sentence: the myth is not over; Prometheus has truly stolen fire once again.
