An independent Bitcoin miner has successfully mined block 899,826, earning a reward valued at $330,386, a rare achievement given the current record-high network difficulty.
According to data from mempool.space, the block was confirmed on June 5 at 3:48 UTC and contains 3,680 transactions. The miner, operating under the Solo CK mining pool, received a base reward of 3.125 bitcoins along with an additional 0.026 bitcoins in transaction fees.
The average transaction fee for block 899,826 was approximately $0.29, with a median fee rate of about 2 satoshis per virtual byte (sat/vB), indicating relatively light network congestion at the time.
In a post on the X platform on June 5, ckpool independent mining pool administrator and software engineer Con Kolivas stated that the miner who won this Bitcoin block recently increased their hash rate to 259 petahashes per second (PH/s), a remarkably high figure.
Given that there was only one working node (mining device identifier) connected, he suggested that this was almost certainly rented hash power—likely sourced from cloud services or market services—temporarily directed at the mining pool in an attempt to win the block reward.
He noted that this account had been mining on CKPool, but typically at a much lower hash rate. Therefore, this significant increase in hash rate was likely a short-term rental aimed at "trying their luck" for the block reward.
According to Blockchain.com, on June 1, Bitcoin mining difficulty reached a new historical high of 1.269 trillion. The surge in difficulty reflects the increasingly fierce competition among miners and the ongoing enhancement of network security.
Mining difficulty adjusts every 2,016 blocks, primarily influenced by network hash rate, which measures the total computational power used to secure the network.
At the current difficulty level, the chances of a single miner successfully solving a block are extremely slim. As Bitcoin difficulty continues to rise, such cases of successful independent mining may become even rarer, making each success story more noteworthy.
This recent successful independent block mining case is part of an increase in similar mining success events this year.
On March 10, an independent Bitcoin miner using a small, low-cost mining device successfully solved block 887,212 through the solo.ckpool mining pool, earning a reward of 3.15 bitcoins (valued at $263,000 at the time), becoming the 297th independent miner to achieve this feat.
Similarly, on February 10, another independent Bitcoin miner successfully mined block 883,181, receiving a reward of 3.15 bitcoins (including fees), valued at over $300,000 at the time. According to Mempool.space, this block contained 3,071 transactions.
