The world's most expensive Pokémon card will once again hit the auction stage.

Social media influencer and WWE star Logan Paul recently announced that he will sell his collection of rare Pokémon cards. He explained that the current market for Pokémon collectibles is very hot and will provide a good "appreciation opportunity" for this collection.

Logan Paul has been active on social media for a long time and has publicly expressed a strong interest in rare Pokémon cards; his identity as a collector is well-known. He and his brother Jake Paul rose to fame through Vine and YouTube, and later ventured into boxing, wrestling, and entertainment. Notably, Jake Paul recently lost to former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in a boxing match streamed live on Netflix.

The card set to be auctioned is called the "Pikachu Illustrator" card, which Logan Paul purchased in 2021 for nearly $5.3 million, a transaction that set the Guinness World Record for the most expensive Pokémon card in a private sale.

This auction will be conducted by the well-known Goldin auction house, which specializes in sports memorabilia and collectibles. According to the agreement, Logan Paul has already received a $2.5 million advance from Ken Goldin, the founder and CEO of Goldin auction house.

This transaction will also be documented in the latest season of the Netflix show "King of Collectibles: The Goldin Touch," which premiered on December 23.

Goldin auction house announced that the "Pikachu Illustrator" will be exclusively available for bidding on Goldin's website starting January 12. Ken Goldin estimates that the final price could reach between $7 million and $12 million, potentially setting a new price benchmark for Pokémon collectibles.

Previously, Paul had rejected Goldin's offer of $7.5 million for this card, indicating that the high-end collectibles market is still on the rise.

Paul candidly stated during a Bloomberg TV interview with Goldin, "The Pokémon market is hotter than ever. Ken made me an offer I couldn't refuse."

Goldin further pointed out that high-end collectibles are an increasingly sought-after alternative asset class among wealthy buyers. He cited a Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant dual-signed trading card that sold for $12 million as an example, noting that there is always strong demand in the collectibles market, including sports cards.

The timing of the Pokémon card auction also reflects the generational shift within the collector community.

30-Year-Old Pokémon Fans Fueling the Collectibles Craze

As the Pokémon series approaches its 30th anniversary in 2026, market enthusiasm is rising. Fans who grew up under the influence of this anime now possess significant economic power to bid on rare collectibles. Goldin analyzes that compared to the previous generation of collectors, these groups are more inclined to pursue cultural symbols that accompanied their growth rather than traditional artworks. Particularly, young fans who grew up with the Pokémon anime now have the financial means to compete for rare collectibles.
