The Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court in Guangdong convicts leaders of the Bai family criminal syndicate—linked to “pig‑butchering” romance scams—and sentences Bai Suocheng, Bai Yingcang, Yang Liqiang, Hu Xiaojiang and Chen Guangyi to death, with additional defendants receiving death with two‑year reprieves, life terms, and fixed‑term sentences; the court orders fines, asset forfeiture and deportation where applicable. The verdict follows findings that the group used influence in Myanmar’s Kokang region to operate 41 sites facilitating telecom fraud, casinos, kidnapping, extortion and forced prostitution, causing six Chinese nationals’ deaths and generating over RMB 29 billion ($4B) in proceeds.

The court also finds Bai Yingcang led trafficking and manufacture of about 11 tonnes of methamphetamine and charges the defendants with 12 offenses including fraud, intentional homicide and intentional injury, imposing penalties according to each defendant’s role and societal harm; enforcement and appeals proceed under Chinese legal procedures. People’s Congress deputies, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference members, victims’ family and the public attended the public sentencing hearing in Shenzhen.
