Many bitcoiners, rightly so, may be discouraged from ever recommending self custody again.
You can't give up, you have to LEARN and ADAPT.
Self custody is far riskier and more difficult than Western bitcoiners gave it credit, and Western bitcoiners have largely been overconfident and dismissive to anyone criticizing this belief.
I believe this contributed significantly not only to the BTC lost but ALSO to the existential despair we're experiencing.
But the response is not to give up entirely, it is to get back on the horse and improve.
We should also think realistically about *why* self custody is so difficult (and likely unrealistic for the vast majority of people).
There are significant improvements that can be made with the tools available today.
I also believe that consensus upgrades are an important to consider. I personally believe that covenants are a very obvious path, but there are certainly many types of consensus changes that could be considered.
My local bitcoin meetup will continue preaching & demonstrating self custody best practices.(cbspears ◉)
