[ING: ECB Rate Hike in September Seems Almost Certain] Jin10 Data, July 23 – ING analyst Carsten Brzeski stated in a report that, in hindsight, the European Central Bank's decision to keep interest rates unchanged in June, against the backdrop of declining inflation and almost no signs of energy price increases causing ripple effects, was clearly justified. However, he noted that, in the context of surging energy prices—and assuming the June rate hike was not merely a precautionary measure—a rate hike in September now seems almost certain. The recent rise in energy prices has pushed the ECB toward a more severe macroeconomic scenario related to the impact of the war. 'Unless oil prices start to drop significantly in the coming weeks, the ECB's own macroeconomic forecast for September will unmistakably call for another rate hike,' he said.
