[Bank of Japan Explores Wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)] Golden Finance reports that for many years, the Bank of Japan has been conducting research projects on retail central bank digital currency (CBDC), involving seven working groups and 64 companies. Although there were comments last year suggesting that there was no need to launch a CBDC, the research continues. At the ongoing CBDC forum, the Governor of the Bank of Japan stated that the scope of research will expand to wholesale CBDC and tokenization.
