Stripe co-founders Patrick Collison and John Collison stated in their annual open letter that as AI Agents gradually become the primary executors of internet transactions, the demand for on-chain transactions could increase significantly. In the future, blockchain networks may need to support over 1 million TPS, or even reach 1 billion TPS to meet the demand. They pointed out that the current blockchain infrastructure still has a clear scalability gap, citing an example where last year’s memecoin trading frenzy on a major blockchain caused payment delays of over 12 hours for Stripe’s Bridge users, with single transaction costs soaring by up to 35 times.
