**[Michael Saylor: "Speculators" Advocating Protocol Changes Are Bitcoin's Biggest Threat]**
According to a report by Jinse Finance, Michael Saylor, co-founder of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) and head of the Bitcoin reserve company, stated that the biggest threat to the Bitcoin network comes from "ambitious opportunists" who attempt to push for changes to the Bitcoin protocol.
Saylor's remarks sparked heated discussions online. Bitcoin maximalist Justin Bechler believes these comments are primarily directed at software developers promoting non-monetary uses of Bitcoin, such as introducing NFTs on the Bitcoin chain or embedding images directly into blocks.
Meanwhile, investor Fred Krueger argued, "The biggest risk to Bitcoin is quantum computing."
At the same time, Mert Mumtaz, CEO of RPC node service provider Helius, explicitly opposed Saylor's view, stating:
"This mindset is absolutely toxic. 'Ambitious people who want to drive technological progress are the biggest risk.' No system is infallible, and that includes Bitcoin. Like all software, Bitcoin has had numerous vulnerabilities to date—perhaps we should fix these flaws rather than let them persist."
Several users, including Mark of Bitcoin, also mentioned the ongoing debate over spam transactions and Bitcoin Improvement Proposal BIP-110—a temporary soft fork proposal aimed at filtering non-monetary data from the Bitcoin ledger.
Saylor's statement has further deepened divisions within the Bitcoin community: one faction advocates for "ossifying" the Bitcoin protocol and minimizing changes, while the other faction, consisting of software developers and tech supporters, calls for introducing more features to Bitcoin, such as quantum-resistant wallet addresses and on-chain file storage.
