I am honored to have been successfully re-elected as a member of the 8th Legislative Council of Hong Kong. I would like to express my gratitude to the more than 1,400 Election Committee members and various sectors of society for their support! Throughout the election process, I emphasized that I will continue to promote the development of Web3 in Hong Kong in the Legislative Council. I will also assist the Hong Kong SAR Government in advancing the development of cutting-edge industries such as embodied intelligence, quantum computing, and space technology, solidifying Hong Kong's unique position as an international innovation and technology center, as designated by the nation.
Previously, there were many questions regarding Hong Kong's development of Web3, including the future direction of stablecoins and the development of RWA (Real World Assets). Since I did not have the opportunity to address these in detail during the election process, I would like to take this opportunity to share my views:
1. Stablecoins: I believe there will be no major changes in the development of stablecoins in Hong Kong, and progress will continue steadily. The Stablecoin Ordinance was passed during the 7th Legislative Council after long-term deliberation and discussion. I am confident that this development will align with both international trends and Hong Kong's actual financial environment. It will progress steadily, starting with the local market as a trial, with the ultimate goal of expanding into the international market, leveraging Hong Kong's status as a financial and innovation hub.
2. RWA (Real World Assets): RWA is currently a heavily discussed topic in both traditional and Web3 industries. Hong Kong has already introduced regulatory sandboxes, and I believe these sandboxes will explore the importance of compliant development and the future direction of regulation. I encourage different industries to boldly experiment with integrating Web3 technologies, as I believe this will drive the development of numerous real-world applications.
3. The Growing Demand for Developers: Over the past three years, Hong Kong has attracted a significant number of Web3 companies through open policies, resulting in a continuous increase in demand for related development talent. The Hong Kong SAR Government has been actively promoting the development of the Northern Metropolis and the Lok Ma Chau Loop Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Park. This not only attracts companies to establish operations but also fosters the growth of talent. More and more companies in areas such as Web3 public chains, compliant exchanges, and foundational infrastructure are setting up in Hong Kong. Having started my entrepreneurial journey as a developer, I deeply understand the inseparable connection between developers and the success of innovation and technology enterprises. In the future, I will assist the industry in building a talent ecosystem to attract more developers and professionals to settle in Hong Kong.
Once again, I extend my gratitude to the Election Committee members, various sectors of society, and the industry for their support. I will continue working hard to promote Hong Kong's development!(Johnny Ng 吴杰庄)
