OstiumLabs is not just making a pie in the sky or creating gimmicks. It is pursuing the path of "combining traditional assets (oil, metals, forex, indices...) with perpetual contracts and on chain wallets" - with the goal of enabling ordinary people, whether they are cryptocurrency players or traditional market veterans, to directly access the traditional asset market on the blockchain
They recently secured a round of financing totaling approximately $27.8 million, including $20 million for Series A, led by General Catalyst and Jump Crypto
The platform backend uses two critical infrastructures to support this ambition:
It is based on Chainlink Data Streams to provide low latency, real-time and reliable market data feeding (such as oil and gold prices that you see), making contract settlement, perpetual trading spreads, slippage, and clearing logic as close to traditional market reality as possible
It essentially uses a "synthesis+perpetual contract+stablecoin settlement+self owned wallet custody" approach, which means you don't need to actually buy metals/oil, nor do you need to hand over money to centralized securities firms - everything is on chain, using stablecoin to place orders, settle, and hedge
This combination implies two things:
The threshold for ordinary users is low - with an account, wallet, and a few clicks, they may participate in things that were originally only available to commodity brokers/derivatives exchanges
Transparent data/liquidity structure - every contract, price difference, funding rate, and position direction can be checked on the chain, not the black box of "whose backend determines whether you can close the position"
Ostium is like using blockchain to create a hybrid of "CFD+perpetual+personal wallet custody" - this thing may hedge the gap between traditional markets and on chain finance in the future
