Starting in 2024, Russia will recognize crypto mining as a legitimate commercial activity, requiring miners consuming more than 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month to register with the Federal Tax Service (FNS) and pay taxes. However, approximately 60% of mining companies have yet to complete their registration. Ogienko pointed out that the lack of an amnesty mechanism for illegally imported equipment is the main reason miners have not registered.
