Blockchain debates often center on speed vs. decentralization, but what if these trade-offs didn't have to exist?
The new upgrades from @SuiNetwork might deliver the best of both worlds.
Mysticeti v2 is the next evolution of Sui’s DAG-based consensus mechanism.
By embedding advanced "FastPath" logic directly into the consensus protocol, Mysticeti v2 allows validators to confirm transactions more efficiently, using fewer interactions, signatures, and less overhead.
Compared to Mysticeti v1 (~390ms), Mysticeti v2 aims to reduce latency further to deliver near-instant finality for DeFi trades, NFT mints, and GameFi interactions.
Execution Sharding with Pilotfish
Pilotfish introduces horizontal scalability to Sui by splitting transaction processing into three specialized layers:
• Primary: Coordinates consensus and transaction ordering.
• Sequencing Workers (SWs): Receive and route transactions.
• Execution Workers (EWs): Execute transactions across distributed state shards.
Benchmarks show Pilotfish achieves up to 10x throughput using 8 EWs compared to baseline execution.
This horizontal scaling lets validators quickly deploy general-purpose machines during demand spikes and switch to cost-effective hardware as demand eases.
Object-Based Local Fee Markets
Sui uses object-based local fee markets, setting transaction fees per asset rather than globally.
This isolates congestion so higher activity in one area won't increase costs elsewhere, making fees more fair for users and developers.
Mysticeti v2 and Pilotfish aren't just routine improvements—they'll fundamentally change transaction handling and validator infrastructure.
Move VM 2.0
Sui introduces a big upgrade to its execution engine with Move VM 2.0.
• Arena allocation: Optimized memory management for lower latency under heavy load.
• Package caching and low lock contention: More efficient parallel execution.
• Pointer referencing across packages: Significantly faster internal calls.
These changes, along with multi-stage ASTs and improved modularity, result in 30–65% faster execution which allows developers to build more complex apps.
These updates position Sui to handle high-frequency use cases at scale without compromising on decentralization.
