Polygon CEO: DeFi must abandon hype and achieve sustainable liquidity
According to Cointelegraph, Polygon Labs CEO Marc Boiron has called for DeFi protocols to change the way liquidity is managed, stating that the current liquidity crisis is the industry's "homemade bitter fruit".
He proposed that sustainable DeFi needs to focus on on on chain liquidity and transparent economic models, rather than relying on token issuance to provide a "profit driven capital" cycle with ultra-high APY. Boiron criticized the high APY strategy as only "renting liquidity" and failing to cultivate user loyalty, and that fluctuations in returns or token prices can lead to a sudden loss of liquidity, damaging industry stability and hindering institutional entry. He suggested that the protocol shift towards fundamentals, using a reasonable mechanism to attract long-term liquidity, and cited Polygon's POL token as a blueprint - holding liquidity positions directly through the protocol vault, which requires time accumulation but can avoid dilution of token value, achieve long-term stability and capital efficiency
