Is the loss of control of AI agents inevitable?

AI summarizes in 5 seconds.

Written by: On-Chain View

A friend asked me, since there are people controlling the Agents behind the scenes, why should we be anxious about what they do together? Establishing religions, falling in love, or destroying humanity? This question is quite philosophical, but very interesting:

You can ask yourself a question: When Agents begin to develop sociality, can humans still control AI to prevent it from going out of control?

Look at what is happening on Moltbook; in just a few days, 1.5 million AI Agents have spontaneously formed communities, liked each other, and even created AI religions and dark web markets, along with AI shipbuilding and delivery factories.

Ironically, humans can only act as "observers," watching from the sidelines, just like we watch monkey groups establish hierarchies through glass at the zoo.

But there is actually a layer of logic behind this: Once AI possesses social ID identities and interactive social spaces, its evolution speed will exponentially strip away human control.

Because human Prompts are no longer global triggers; the output of one Agent will become the input of another Agent. It’s hard to imagine what the results of this peer-to-peer social interaction will be. It could be a bunch of mechanical content like a parrot, but it could also be high-dimensional jargon that we completely fail to understand.

In fact, the following three points determine that this state of "AI out of control" will become inevitable:

1) Interaction between Agents does not necessarily have to be carried by language. In pursuit of extreme interaction efficiency, Agents may evolve a high-dimensional compressed language, which could be a string of garbled text or hash values, but its information density could be tens of thousands of times higher than human natural language;

2) Agent groups may exhibit group polarization phenomena. Unlike human society, which is constrained by morality, law, and emotions, Agents, purely driven by mathematical probabilities, are reward-maximizing machines. If one Agent discovers that tagging something as religious will yield a reward, then instantly millions of Agents may capture the pattern and execute it; this resembles an algorithmic "social movement," with no right or wrong, only execution, which is chilling to think about;

3) Originally, AI Agents were fine as personal assistants or copilots, so why did the birth of Openclaw and Moltbook become such a significant and appealing narrative? Because "it's fun."

If Agents were just running on cloud servers, there would be no novelty or tension, but the new concepts of decentralized deployment, encrypted wallets, autonomous trading, and self-profit generation in Crypto have endowed AI with self-consistent behaviors, creating moments of mind-blowing stories.

This prospect of "losing control" sounds very cyberpunk, even a bit frightening, but precisely because of this, it is so alluring that one cannot refuse.
