Avalanche Pre-Consensus Brings Near-Instant Finality to XEC

Ecash (XEC), a cryptocurrency project with a special focus on scalable payments, will launch Avalanche pre-consensus, a new usability feature, into its network on November 15.

The feature, which had been in the works since the initial currency’s development roadmap and was announced back in October by Ecash founder Amaury Sechet, aims to enhance the usage of XEC as a payment token.

In what Ecash’s development team calls a “world first” for proof-of-work networks, this allows almost real-time finality for transactions, meaning users will not have to wait for a block confirmation when making movements to exchanges or third parties.

Through Avalanche’s implementation, Ecash also receives protection against 51% attacks and permissionless subnets with improved protocol governance, allowing nodes to fine-tune consensus changes without risking chain splits.

Pondering on the relevance of this move, Sechet stated:

Pre-consensus with avalanche brings confirmation time from 10m to less than 2s, without sacrificing any of the Bitcoin-like properties of eCash, which is a game changer for digital cash.

David Klakurka, Director, Blockchain Ventures, Management & Strategy, Ecash, also regarded the milestone as an advancement for the whole cryptocurrency ecosystem.

He declared that it was “the culmination of the last 5+ years of technical planning and engineering, further showcasing Bitcoin ABC’s relentless commitment to building what’s needed to actually move the industry forward.”

Avalanche pre-consensus is relevant enough for other chains to also implement, bringing the same benefits that the cryptocurrency is acquiring through this move.

This would also improve the cash functionality of similar cryptocurrencies, maintaining the robustness and security provided by the backing of a network that includes proof-of-work consensus elements.

While this implementation is regarded as a “game-changer,” Sechet believes it is unlikely for other chains to adopt similar structures. “This technology could indeed be used by other chains, but as far as I can tell, all lack the know-how, the willingness, or both,” he stressed.

  • What new feature will Ecash introduce on November 15?
Ecash will launch Avalanche pre-consensus, aimed at enhancing the scalability and usability of XEC as a payment token.

  • What benefits does Avalanche pre-consensus provide for transactions?
This feature enables almost real-time finality for transactions, allowing users to make payments without waiting for block confirmations.

  • How does Avalanche pre-consensus protect the network?
It safeguards against 51% attacks and enables the creation of permissionless subnets, allowing nodes to make consensus changes without risks of chain splits.

  • Why is this development significant for the cryptocurrency ecosystem?
The introduction of pre-consensus in Ecash could set a precedent for other cryptocurrencies, enhancing their cash functionality while preserving security through proof-of-work elements.
