Binance co-founder Zhao Changpeng ("CZ") recently refuted reports that he is leading a proposal to establish a crypto-friendly private bank in Kyrgyzstan, where he currently serves in an advisory role.

This rumor originated from a statement made by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to the Kabar news agency on Sunday. Japarov noted that during CZ's visit to the country in May, he suggested a joint effort to establish a private bank that would also engage in cryptocurrency business.

Japarov stated that he personally prefers to open a state-owned bank, but after CZ rejected this idea, "we ultimately agreed to establish a private bank," which led to the creation of Bereket Bank.

However, CZ explicitly denied Japarov's claims. In a post on the X platform released on Monday, the former Binance CEO emphasized that he is not the proponent of the proposal and has no interest in running a bank.

"This statement is inaccurate. While it does not reach the level of FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt), it is still incorrect. I never proposed to create a bank myself. Although I generally support cooperation between banks and cryptocurrencies, I have absolutely no interest in running a bank. I do not know the names mentioned below. This is by no means a proposal I put forward," he pointed out.

"I may have expressed a sentiment like 'I hope there are as many digital banks supporting cryptocurrencies as possible,'" he added.

Despite denying involvement in the private bank proposal, CZ did reveal in April that he is providing regulatory and technical consulting services related to blockchain and cryptocurrencies for Kyrgyzstan after signing a memorandum of understanding with the country's foreign investment agency.

He also attended the second meeting of the National Virtual Assets and Blockchain Technology Development Committee, which he co-chaired with Japarov. At the meeting, it was announced that Kyrgyzstan has launched a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Kyrgyz som, which operates on the BNB Chain, and if officially launched, BNB will be included in the crypto reserves.
