Yesterday marked the 17th anniversary of Satoshi Nakamoto’s first message to the world — and fittingly, a 14-year-old wallet from 2011 woke up from hibernation, sending 100 BTC worth about $10.99 million.

October was no snooze either: btcparser.com stats show 98 long-dormant bitcoin addresses woke up, including one ancient wallet from Nov. 1, 2010, which nudged a minuscule 0.00000548 BTC. Halloween’s 100 BTC revival was the fourth transfer from a 2011-era stash this month.

Before that, a 10 BTC transfer kicked off Oct. 1, followed by 1.51546000 BTC on Oct. 9, and a hefty 150.00000223 BTC on Oct. 23. Altogether, 261.51546223 BTC — roughly $28.7 million — in vintage 2011 coins shuffled around this October, proving that even old bitcoins can still put on a show. Wallets born in 2012 decided to stretch their digital legs, moving 88.62001543 BTC across four separate transactions.

Meanwhile, the parsed data shows that 2013 wallets were far busier, shuffling a total of 298.28505426 BTC through 14 distinct transfers. Fourteen dormant wallets from 2014 stirred last month, sending 431.80449294 BTC into fresh addresses. The 2015 batch of dormant addresses was quieter, with only seven moves totaling 110.25672027 BTC making their first appearance in years.

But 2016 wallets stole the spotlight — 29 of them transferred a hefty 982.62384368 BTC, valued at roughly $108 million. Interestingly, 2013-origin addresses made up 36.24% of all dormant activity last month. Wrapping up the month, 25 sleeping 2017 wallets joined the action, relocating 541.07243372 BTC, worth around $59 million at current rates.

One more twist: that 150.00000223 BTC transfer from a 2011 wallet on Oct. 23 actually revealed a hidden trove of 4,000 coins. All told, October’s onchain resurrection brought bitcoin ghosts out of hiding, with wallets from nearly every vintage year shuffling more than $298 million in long-silent BTC.

From decade-old hoards to the Halloween move that exposed a 4,000-coin treasure, the month showed that even the most silent bitcoin addresses can still rattle their chains in style.
