The major American cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has continued its acquisition spree into 2025 by acquiring the token management platform Liquifi.
Coinbase announced on Wednesday the strategic acquisition of Liquifi, which focuses on early-stage tokenization projects.
"The acquisition of Liquifi provides us with top-tier capabilities in token equity table management, vesting, and compliance, enabling Coinbase to support builders at an earlier stage of their journey," said Greg Tusar, Vice President of Institutional Products at Coinbase, in the announcement.
This marks Coinbase's fourth acquisition this year, following its $2.9 billion acquisition of Deribit, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency derivatives exchanges, in May.
According to Tusar, the acquisition of Liquifi aims to address the complexities of on-chain builders' token issuance, including decentralized legal, tax, and compliance hurdles, as well as regulatory matters.
"We aim to eliminate these barriers by providing products and expertise to make token issuance simple, compliant, and scalable," Tusar stated, adding:
He further noted that this acquisition aligns with Coinbase's vision and goal of making token issuance "easier, faster, and more global than issuing traditional startup equity."
Coinbase's assistance to on-chain developers will not be limited to the Liquifi platform, as it plans to integrate it into its institutional brokerage platform, Coinbase Prime.
"Over time, we will integrate these capabilities with Coinbase Prime, providing issuers with top-tier tools directly from our market-leading Prime platform while enhancing our integration in custody, trading, financing, and more," Tusar said.
Liquifi was founded in 2021 with the aim of simplifying token management. Its clients include Uniswap, Optimism, Ethena, and Zora.
"This is just the beginning," Liquifi stated in an announcement on the X platform. "With the support of Coinbase's resources, we are building the institutional-grade token infrastructure that the industry deserves," it added.
Earlier this year, Coinbase also acquired the on-chain advertising and attribution platform Spindl, as well as the team behind the privacy-focused crypto platform Iron Fish.
