House of Streams, a new reality 9-part series that blends live-streaming culture with traditional formats, will debut on Netflix in the UK and Ireland on June 18. Filmed entirely in Malta and produced and funded by Stream House Media Productions (SHriMP.co), the series introduces a novel approach to audience engagement and reality storytelling—one that reflects the shift in both media consumption and digital culture.
The show brings together eight prominent streamers from across the globe, including the U.S., Ireland, The Netherlands, UK, and Australia with a devout following on platforms like Twitch and YouTube. Over the course of 15 days, the streamers lived together in a Mediterranean villa, competing in challenges designed to test their gaming skills, adaptability, and audience engagement. The winner receives a prize of one Bitcoin, adding a unique twist to the show’s premise. At the start of filming, the cryptocurrency was valued around $16,000. As the premiere approaches, that figure has risen to over $100,000—a creative hook that has given the show unprecedented exposure within the crypto world which has drawn considerable attention in the press.
Hosted by Sky Sports and Esports broadcaster Nicole Holliday, House of Streams stands out not only for its prize structure but also for its unique concepts and formats. Audience members were able to interact with contestants in real time via chat, helping shape the narrative as it unfolded. According to show creator Mark Holland, this level of interactivity reflects how live-streaming is transforming the boundaries of viewer participation in entertainment.
“Chat was central to steering the show and was a big influence behind the scenes,” said Mark Holland, the producer of “House of Streams”. The audience had real-time interaction with the cast and played a crucial part in directing and presiding over the show’s outcome. That creates a new narrative and creates a different kind of pressure for the contestants, who are already used to live online scrutiny.
The production was supported by Screen Malta (Malta Film Commission) and marks the first Malta-based show to be licensed by Netflix.
The series was shot using a live, around-the-clock format, with a lean production crew and a creative team who, against all odds and with a very tight budget, pulled off a Netflix deal that was negotiated by UK-based Camelot Films.
Although the inclusion of a Bitcoin prize has stirred discussion—particularly given the recent surge in cryptocurrency prices—the show’s producer has emphasized that the decision was primarily creative and that Bitcoin hitting all-time highs is purely coincidental. Everything about House of Streams is different and designed to reflect the era of the digital streaming age. “Offering a digital asset as a prize was part of that design,” said Holland.
The show arrives amid a broader cultural conversation about the influence of online creators and the convergence between streaming platforms and mainstream television. With over 4 million followers, the participating streamers bring an established audience and diverse fan bases to the series, which the producers hope will help bridge the gap between digital-first content and more traditional TV formats.
House of Streams is set to stream from midnight of June 18 on Netflix in the UK and Ireland. Discussions about potential international distribution and a second season are ongoing.
